We also designed and developed an application to run on workstations. This allows the person controlling use of the handhelds to download data from the central database (the Tranman Fleet Management package) and then further download subsets onto individual handhelds. The collected data is then uploaded back to the workstation where it is processed into the appropriate format to be loaded back into Tranman. Initially data transfer was achieved using MS ActiveSync, but since the live system was to use MS Terminal Server, XTND Server® was used instead. All software and data was stored in non-volatile memory, and automatically restored after a power loss. The system is now being rolled out to 500 users in the UK and Germany. We
have recently completed the design, development and implementation of a
data collection application for use on the Army's 'Whole Fleet Management'
project. The application is written in eMbedded Visual Basic and runs on
barcode scanners
under Windows CE 3.0 (Pocket PC).
